I’ve been on vacation for a little over a week. It was much needed and enjoyed!
Today was my first day back on the job and what a welcome I received!
This is Sonora and her little girl- the first of the season, less than an thirty minutes old.
The first shows the two bonding- there was lots of clicking and humming and licking.

Alpacas are great lawn mowers. They quite happily spend their day grazing and lounging. Good pasture grass is essential to their diets.
We live on the alpaca farm, and I manage the daily alpaca care- scooping, feeding, birthing… The property we live on is five acres- about half is enclosed for the alpacas. All of the grass on the property is pasture grass. It grows like crazy in the places the alpacas aren’t living…. so I thought it would be an interesting experiment to put up sone moveable fencing to controll where the animals graze in what is essentially our from yard. This makes sense because the lawnmower keeps going on the fritz- and because -alpacas eat grass. so… let the experiment begin!
This morning, I moved three alpacas to the fenced yard- it is nine ten foot fences- so- 90 Square feet of food
i’ll move them back with the herd later, but for now, they seem happy.

Apparently the health food is effecting our rodent community.
Last night, Wicky was playing with a mouse and they brought the game into our bedroom-
We awoke to pouncing, running and lots of squeaking. I took this middle of the night opportunity to register the little squeaker in our relocation program. Eventually I caught the mouse in a gallon glass jar. This works nice as a holding room until morning, when, more awake, I can discuss relocation options.
I looked in this morning and did not see a mouse- jokingly I told David that all the healthfood must make them stronger and smarter because they have never escaped the jar before.
A few hours later I looked in a saw a mouse in the jar. huh? Okay- so maybe I was mistaken earlier. Or maybe they have powers of invisibility, like David suggested.
Just a minute ago, I was in for, yet another, surprise!
They are super mice- I heard excessive squeaking- looked in on our friend— who , much to my surprise, was entertaining another mouse- ( the loud talker) who squeaked, hopped out of my jar ( yes, I said hopped -out-of-the-jar!!) & scurried away. Caught mouse then began jumping/ trying to escape. Obviously, the loud talker, also known as Mighty Mouse, came in to instruct our young mouse friend on the art of escape.
I’m not really sure what to make of all this- we definately have some smart rodents around here damnit- I really don’t want to admire their intelligence nor their sense of community.
Sheesh!

I glanced over and saw Shasta & Proseco sitting together under the tent and out if the rain. I thought they looked so sweet- as if they were cuddling.

Friday morning came and Gwendolyn decided to take Tiberius for another walk. They were both much more comfortable with each other. Gwendolyn was surprised at how much easier it was to manage him this time. I told her it was because they both had a better idea of what to expect!
She decided to give another cria some halter practice. Prosecco is the cute beige baby walking with Gwendolyn in the picture.
